Medical Master Classes at Amur State Medical Academy
At master classes from the Amur State Medical Academy, high school students of the Amur Region tried themselves in the role of traumatologists and surgeons
The Amur State Medical Academy continues a series of master classes for high school students of the Amur Region in various medical specialties.
On the basis of the Amur Regional Clinical Hospital, a traumatologist, head of the Department of Traumatology with a course of disaster medicine of the Amur State Medical Academy, Ivan Viktorovich Borozda, told the children about the work of a traumatologist, showed how to install a tourniquet to temporarily stop bleeding and apply fixing bandages.
"Medicine is more of a dynastic specialty. It rarely happens that a person, without relatives of doctors, comes to medicine and starts a new dynasty. A doctor must be able to sympathize and help. You need to understand that a surgeon sometimes has to hurt a person. Studying at the medical academy is difficult but very interesting," Ivan Viktorovich told the schoolchildren.
The children practiced applying bandages, tried to install tourniquets to stop bleeding, and also learned that the human body can work as a lie detector and even listened to the poems of Sasha Cherny.
"I definitely decided to enter a medical school. I will apply to educational institutions in several cities, and there I will pass as if by points. My father is a dentist, he has been in this profession for about 20 years. I often talk to him about his work, ask, and find out. The master class is very interesting and informative," said Matvey Brusov, a student of the 10th grade of school No16 in the city of Blagoveshchensk.
In the therapeutic building of the city clinical hospital at the Department of Surgery with a course of urology, another group of high school students under the guidance of assistants of the department, Natalia Anatolyevna Dupliy and Ekaterina Pavlovna Ivanova, immersed themselves in practice. High school students trained in suturing and knitting surgical knots on skin simulators learned to handle a needle holder and tweezers.
"Our department is responsible for student practice in the second and fourth years of the Faculty of Medicine. We teach a discipline called “General Surgery.” Even if you do not plan to connect your life with medicine, this master class is intriguing for general development," said Natalia Anatolyevna.
The schoolchildren got acquainted with different types of surgical instruments and sutures and attended a tour of the department. The main composition of the group included students of the 11th grade of Gymnasium No. 25 in the city of Blagoveshchensk, but two tenth-graders came to the master class from the village of Arkhara.
"I really liked the master class; there was an opportunity to feel like a real surgeon. During the tour, we were shown the work of the department. We have no doctors in our family. My parents always wanted me to become a doctor, and I gradually began to get interested in this topic myself. I also plan to come to the Open Day at the Amur State Medical Academy, because I am going to enter the medical academy," said Diana Gorbunova, a student of the 10th grade of school No. 1 in the village of Arkhara.
