Amur State Medical Academy Students Win Big Challenges 2026

Students of Amur State Medical Academy Shine in Big Challenges Competition 2026

The Amur State Medical Academy continues to strengthen its position in advanced medical education in Russia by actively collaborating with the Vega Center for the Identification and Support of Gifted Children. This initiative reflects the academy’s commitment to nurturing future professionals in biomedicine, genetics, and molecular biology—key domains for students planning to study MBBS in Russia.

As part of this collaboration, dozens of school and lyceum students enrolled in the long-term program “Molecular Biology of the Cell.” Among them, six outstanding participants developed research projects and qualified for the Big Challenges competition, a prestigious All-Russian scientific and technological competition for high school students.

High-Level Scientific Mentorship & Student Excellence

The final round of the regional competition was held at the Boiling Point innovation platform. All six projects mentored by the academy successfully reached the finals—demonstrating the strong academic ecosystem at Amur State Medical Academy, making it an affordable MBBS university in Russia for Indian students.

The projects were guided by:

  • Professor Evgeny Alexandrovich Borodin, Head of the Department of Chemistry
  • Talented first-year medical students:
    • Sofia Demko
    • Alexey Baranov
    • Stepan Sidorenko

These mentors themselves are alumni of the Vega Center and previous achievers in national-level competitions, highlighting the academy’s strong research-driven education model.

Innovative Projects in Genetics & Biomedicine

Five projects were presented under the highly relevant field of Genetics and Biomedicine, which is directly aligned with modern medical education in Russia for foreign students:

  • Bioengineering research
  • Vaccine development: history and modern advancements
  • Gene therapy innovations
  • Cognitive disorder studies
  • CRISPR-based gene editing for food quality enhancement

Additionally, in the field of Nanotechnology and Microelectronics, a project focused on biosensors for detecting nanoscale gold in the environment—demonstrating interdisciplinary innovation.

Winner Project: CRISPR-Cas9 Breakthrough

The competition winner, Maria Zorina, received top honors for her project:

“Knockout of the Lipoxygenase 2 Gene Using CRISPR-Cas9 Technology to Improve the Consumer Qualities of Soy Food Products.”

Her work reflects cutting-edge application of CRISPR gene-editing technology, a core area in modern MBBS and biomedical research programs in Russia.

As part of her achievement, she will:

  • Proceed to the national-level selection interview
  • Earn an educational trip to Sirius, Russia’s leading talent development center
