The course of medical physics began to function since the foundation of the institute in 1952.
1. Sergey Alexandrovich Shipitsyn was the first head of the department, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor.
2. Karmen K.N. was the head from September 1953 to September 1957, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
3. Pyotr Panteleimonovich Danko headed the department from 1957 to 1970.
In 1970, the physics course was renamed the Department of Medical Physics.
1. Nonna Zhebrovskaya headed the Department of Medical Physics from 1970 to November 1972.
2. Maksimova Valentina Nikolaevna acted as the head of the department from November 1972 to September 1973.
3. Ulyanov Nikolay Alexandrovich headed the department during the 1973 - 74 and 1974 - 75 academic years, Candidate of Technical Sciences.
4. Leonid Viktorovich Makarov headed the department from 1975 to January 1987, Candidate of Technical Sciences.
5. Smirnov Viktor Alexandrovich headed the Department of Medical Physics from February 1987 to October 2022, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor.
6. Elena Viktorovna Plashcheva has been heading the Department of Medical Physics from December 2022 to the present, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor.
Sergey Alexandrovich Shipitsyn was born in 1902 in the city of Nizhneudinsk. He received his secondary education at the Nizhneudinsk Real School. In 1921, the Department of Public Education appointed him as a teacher at the Nizhneudinsk school of the first degree. From 1921 to 1924 he worked in a rural school. In October 1924, he was transferred to the Nizhneudinsk school of the second degree as a teacher of physics for junior classes.
In 1926, he entered the Irkutsk State University at the Pedagogical Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. In 1930 he graduated from the university. As a third-year student, he worked as a teacher of physics at the Irkutsk Workers' University. In 1931, he was accepted as an assistant at the Department of Physics at the East Siberian Communist University. In 1933, after the reorganization of the Higher Communist Agricultural School into the Higher Communist Agricultural School, he was appointed head of the Department of Physics. In this position, he worked until the reorganization of the Komselkhozshkola into an agricultural college. In 1941, he entered the medical Irkutsk State Institute as a senior laboratory assistant, and then as an assistant at the Department of Physics, remaining to work part-time at the agricultural college until February 1946.
In 1950 he defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. In 1951, he was approved in the rank of associate professor. Since 1951, he concurrently taught a course in spectroscopy at Irkutsk State University. The main direction of research work is the study of biological materials by spectral analysis.
In connection with the need to strengthen the departments of the Blagoveshchensk State Medical Institute, by order of the Minister of Health of the RSFSR from September 1, 1952 (in the order of transfer), he was appointed head of the Department of Physics.
During his work at the Blagoveshchensk State Medical Institute, Sergey Alexandrovich showed great initiative and perseverance in the organization of the department, was engaged in methodological work, made a lot of efforts to organize scientific research related to local reservoirs. Students showed good knowledge of the subject. He participated in the work of the seminar at the Department of Marxism-Leninism on the study of the work of Comrade Stalin I.V. "Economic Problems of Socialism in the USSR", and the decisions of the XIX Party Congress.
