Laboratory Diagnostics Master Class for School Students at Amur State Medical Academy

A master class on laboratory diagnostics was held for Amur schoolchildren at the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry held a master class for schoolchildren on laboratory diagnostics. His day of students in grades 9-10 from Arkhara and Novopetrovka was conducted by Associate Professor of the Department Elena Egorshina. They found out what they were doing at the department, and were even able to conduct a laboratory study on their own.

First, she told the high school students about the department and about the Amur State Medical Academy as a whole. Schoolchildren learned about the history of the university, what faculties it has, how their studies are conducted, and what kind of doctors they can become. She also spoke about what is studied at the Department of Chemistry, conducted a short tour, showed various equipment and told what it is intended for. The children saw various scales, centrifuges and devices for medical tests.

"Whatever disease the doctor treats in a patient, he will always need test results. Therefore, laboratory service in medicine is extremely important. It includes several areas, including the study of blood, cerebrospinal cord, pleural and many other body fluids. And in order to study all this well, a laboratory assistant must have very good training. The right choice of treatment tactics and, ultimately, people's health largely depends on this," said Elena Egorshina.

After the tour, the high school students went to the laboratory, where test tubes, instruments, and chemical reagents had already been prepared for them. Under the guidance of the teacher, they learned how to measure the exact amount of material using high-precision pipettes, and then determined the protein content in the blood plasma.

This year, a number of career guidance events are planned for schoolchildren at the Department of Chemistry. Last week, the head of the department, Evgeny Borodin, told schoolchildren about the achievements and prospects of modern genetics. Several more meetings with high school students will take place in the near future.
