Third-Year Medical Students Successfully Complete Clinical Diagnostics Internship in Russia

Third-year students completed their practical training in diagnostics. It took place from June 27 to July 20. Responsible for the practice were the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases and the Department of Hospital Therapy with a course of pharmacology.

In medical institutions of Blagoveshchensk, 158 people underwent practice. They were distributed among several clinical bases - the city and regional clinical hospital, the oncological dispensary and the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery of the Amur State Medical Academy. More than 60 people underwent practical training in other settlements of the Amur Region and other regions.

The practice included two modules - propaedeutics and diagnostics of internal diseases. Students had vivid impressions of it:

Ksenia Ovcharova, group 319:

"My practice of the diagnostic profile flew by in an instant. I underwent it in the neurology department of the Blagoveshchensk City Clinical Hospital. We were met by a very friendly team, and literally from the threshold we were brought up to speed. We went on rounds with doctors every day, conducted examinations, collected anamnesis, measured blood pressure, and made treatment plans. It felt like you were part of the team. My favorite place was the functional diagnostics room. It is interesting to conduct electroencephalography, and to decipher is a whole art. After this practice, looking at the ECG is now not scary at all, everything is laid out on the shelves in my head. I also remember the ultrasound room very much. It is very interesting to analyze the pathology, to write a conclusion. This practice was the most exciting time in all three years of study at the academy. I am still very impressed and finally convinced of the right choice of profession

Dmitry Vrazovsky, group 303:

"I had an internship at the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery of the Amur State Medical Academy. During this time, I learned a lot of new and interesting things. We were told how to write a medical history, I conducted patient interviews, anamnesis, auscultation, percussion. I also learned how to take an ECG, I was told how to use the device, and I spent the whole day doing diagnostics. I spent several days in the operating unit, saw different types of pacemakers, learned how they are installed. I also visited coronary angiography and stenting operations. The practice was very interesting and informative."

Denis Ryabov, group 314:

"My internship took place at the Amur Regional Clinical Hospital. At first, we had a propaedeutics module, it took place in the department of elective cardiology. There I worked with a patient with coronary heart disease, conducted examinations every day, interviewed him and wrote a medical history. I accompanied this patient on several types of examinations – ECG, Echocardiography and coronary angiography. I liked this module because, in addition to oral questioning and the use of instrumental research methods such as auscultation and percussion, I was able to see the entire process of diagnosis and treatment. After that, there was a therapy module, which I underwent in two departments – in the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery and in the Admission and Diagnostic Department. At the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery, I visited several types of tests, visited the laboratory and saw how tests are carried out on modern equipment. A very important thing for me in this module was that we examined patients for a long time. In the beginning, I went to a patient who had just been admitted to the hospital and talked to one person. But during the practice, every day collecting anamnesis, conducting an examination, measuring blood pressure, I see improvements in his condition. And when after some time you come to a patient who is preparing for discharge, this is a completely different person, he has a completely different mood, he makes contact in a different way. I have examined a lot of patients, and for each of them my heart was happy when they said that they were going to be discharged. Every day to see how a person's condition improves, how he recovers is worth a lot!"
