Student Conference on Rehabilitation Medicine Held at Amur State Medical Academy

At the Department of Physical Education with a course of physical therapy and the Department of Public Health and Public Health, a student conference was held, organized by Associate Professor Reznikova Svetlana Valerievna and the Head of the Department Molchanova Elena Evgenievna. The event was timed to coincide with the Day of the Rehabilitator.

— The need for such a conference is ripe because the specialty of "doctor of physical and rehabilitation medicine" is just being introduced in Russia, and students and practicing doctors do not yet have a full understanding of what exactly such specialists do. The conference helped to form a holistic view of the new discipline, its history, teamwork and modern directions," the teachers said.

The first two reports were devoted to the theoretical foundations.

Selina Daria (420 grams) spoke about the history of the emergence of the specialty, emphasizing that medicine did not deal with patients with chronic disorders for a long time, and the crisis of the 1990s destroyed the already existing rehabilitation centers.

Vadim Nesterov (420 grams) presented a report on the multidisciplinary team, stressing that the doctor of the FRM does not work alone, but coordinates the efforts of a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, a psychologist and a rehabilitation nurse.

The next two reports were devoted to the practical direction of rehabilitation.

Shestakov Vladimir (603 gr.) made a review report, focusing on the development of rehabilitation services in the Amur Region, outlining the existing centers, the availability of care and prospects for the region.

Oksana Remeshevskaya (604 grams) concluded the conference with a report on new developments that will be implemented in the near future. She focused on reflexology, as her group is now studying this discipline. Reznikova S.V. complemented her speech by talking about promising areas in physiotherapy and therapeutic exercises.

"The conference was lively and interesting. Such events help future doctors understand the essence of rehabilitation, its team nature and their future role in the healthcare system," say the teachers of the Amur State Medical Academy.
