Amur State Medical Academy Cardiac Clinic Performs Innovative Heart Procedures

September 14, 2026

The Cardiac Surgery Clinic of the Amur State Medical Academy is the only medical institution in the Far East that is directly involved in the clinical testing of new surgical techniques.

Clinical testing is a mandatory and strictly regulated stage in the implementation of innovative medical technologies. In the course of this process, the leading federal research centers assess the clinical efficacy, safety and feasibility of using new treatment methods in real clinical practice on the basis of specialized departments. This makes it possible to integrate advanced world standards into the regional healthcare system at the stage of their official implementation.

At the beginning of September, as part of clinical testing protocols, five operations were performed at the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery to implant subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (S-ICD). This technique makes it possible to provide reliable prevention of sudden cardiac death in patients with life-threatening arrhythmias, while avoiding intravascular electrode conduction and keeping the venous bed intact. Surgical interventions were carried out jointly with a cardiovascular surgeon of the National Medical Research Center named after Academician E.N. Meshalkin of the Ministry of Health of Russia Alexei Germanovich Filippenko.

The operating team of the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery includes:

Cardiovascular surgeons: Kirill Arkadyevich Lyubenkov, Andrey Sergeevich Shulga, Georgy Valeryevich Krotov

Anesthesiologists and resuscitators:S Tanislav Vladimirovich Fuchs

Operating nurses: Olga Andreevna Mityukhlyaeva, Nadezhda Fedorovna Naurshina

Nurse anesthetist: Veronika Dmitrievna Kozyreva

Santirka: Nina Petrovna Kositsina

Further, work within the framework of clinical testing protocols was continued: a series of operations on transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) using cerebral protection systems were performed. The use of cerebral protection minimizes the risk of embolism and ischemic complications of the brain during the intervention. These high-tech operations were performed with the participation of Dmitry Dmitrievich Zubarev, Head of the Research Department of Endovascular Surgery, doctor in X-ray endovascular methods of diagnosis and treatment of the Academician E.N. Meshalkin National Medical Research Center of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

The operating team of the Cardiac Surgery Clinic includes:

Chief Physician of the Clinic, Ph.D. Alexander Vladimirovich Korotkikh

Doctor of X-ray endovascular methods of diagnosis and treatment: Vladimir Ivanovich Tsiupalo

Anesthesiologists and resuscitators: Victor Nikolaevich Nikitin, Vyacheslav Vadimovich Kozyrev, Georgy Filippovich Kondratov

Operating nurses: Olga Andreevna Mityukhlyaeva, Svetlana Mikhailovna Smelyanskaya

X-ray technician: Andrey Anatolyevich Fedorov

Nurse anesthetist: Olga Vladimirovna Sinetskaya, Elena Vasilievna Andrievskaya

Nurse: Nina Petrovna Kositsina

The participation of the Cardiac Surgery Clinic of the Amur State Medical Academy in federal clinical testing programs confirms the high level of organization of high-tech medical care in the institution. This provides patients in the Amur Region and the entire Far Eastern Federal District with access to the most modern, evidence-based methods of cardiac surgery directly at the place of residence, eliminating the need for lengthy referrals to federal centers in Moscow or Novosibirsk.
