Medical Summer School in Russia for international students

Medical Summer School in Russia Gives Future Doctors Hands-On Clinical Experience

June 22, 2026

The day before, schoolchildren in grades 8-10 visited the Department of Surgery with a course of urology on the basis of the city clinical hospital: they visited the emergency room, the surgical department, got acquainted with the conditions for storing blood components and the equipment of the dressing room.

Schoolchildren attended the examination of patients in the rooms of computed tomography, endoscopy and ultrasound diagnostics. Master classes were held for them on determining blood type and Rh factor, suturing and performing intravenous injections on phantoms. Classes with them were conducted by assistants of the department Olga Olegovna Kalyuzhina and Natalia Anatolyevna Dupliy.

On the final day of the summer school, the children got acquainted with the Department of Traumatology, with the course of disaster medicine. Teachers of the department prepared a program for schoolchildren "Assistance to victims of emergencies".

The program included an interactive quiz in the form of "Your Own Game", which included five categories of questions of varying degrees of complexity: first aid, cyber shield, autonomy, civil defense and emergency situations, for the benefit of the Fatherland.

Then the schoolchildren were immersed in an improvised emergency center and taught the method of medical triage according to N.I. Pirogov. According to the author's development of its implementation by the teachers of the Department of Traumatology with a course of disaster medicine, the children were assigned to medical sorting teams to make a triage decision for each injured person and fill out the primary medical card F 100.

The culmination of the day was the master class "Breathe Freely", where schoolchildren were shown various personal respiratory protection equipment, demonstrated them in action and practiced these skills.

"The main benefit of such classes is the formation of an automatic skill of saving lives in an emergency. In conditions of stress, a person acts on instincts and relies on real experience," said Associate Professor of the Department of Traumatology Victoria Viktorovna Zaritskaya.

As the senior lecturer of the Department of Traumatology with a course of disaster medicine Irina Anatolyevna Khreshchenok emphasized, this work is carried out within the framework of the career guidance activities of the department.
