Immunization and Public Health Training Strengthen Medical Education in Russia

On the basis of the Amur Regional Clinical Hospital, a regional seminar was held on the organization and conduct of vaccination. The event was held in a face-to-face and remote format. The main goals of the seminar were to improve the system of immunoprophylaxis of infectious diseases in the Amur Region and increase the professional competence of medical workers in the region.

The organizers were the Amur Regional Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS and Infectious Diseases, the Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology and Dermatovenereology of the Amur State Medical Academy. The event was attended by more than 120 specialists in various medical fields.

Vaccination remains the most effective and cost-effective way to protect health. Reliable immunoprophylaxis reduces the overall morbidity, prevents long-term complications and protects patients from death, both from the infections themselves and from the exacerbation of comorbidities. The systematic implementation of these tasks in each constituent entity of the Russian Federation makes it possible to maintain a stable epidemiological situation. This is confirmed by regional statistics: in 2025, vaccination coverage of decreed groups in the Amur Region was 97,6%.

The seminar program was opened by Victoria Yashina, Head of the Immunoprophylaxis Department, epidemiologist of the Amur Oblast AIDS Center, who presented a report on the experience of expanding the immunoprophylaxis program in the Amur Oblast. Tatyana Makarova, Chief Freelance Specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Khabarovsk Territory, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Institute for Advanced Training of Health Professionals, Doctor of Medical Sciences, spoke about the social and medical importance of protection against meningococcal infection, Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Novosibirsk State Medical University, Doctor of Medical Sciences Irina Izvekova highlighted in detail the strategy for combating whooping cough.

Anastasia Zotova, Associate Professor of the Department, Ph.D., and Tatyana Sukhina, Assistant Physician of the Amur Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, Assistant Professor, were devoted to the assessment of post-vaccination immunity against hepatitis B in medical workers. The final speech was the report of assistant Tatyana Dolgikh on the analysis of clinical cases of severe vaccine-preventable infections.

The seminar showed that the joint work of specialists and the exchange of experience help to effectively develop regional vaccination programs and increase the level of knowledge of medical workers.
