Affordable MBBS in Russia: International Round Table on Pediatric Diabetes at Amur State Medical Academy

An interregional round table on the topic “Diabetes Mellitus in Children: Today and Tomorrow. Issues of Early Diagnosis, Effective Monitoring and Prevention of Complications” was held in a hybrid format (face-to-face and remote) at the Amur State Medical Academy. The meeting was attended by doctors from Blagoveshchensk, St. Petersburg, Khabarovsk, and Chita, as well as representatives of the public and medical students, including those pursuing MBBS in Russia for Indian students programs.

Such academic and scientific events highlight why many international aspirants choose to study MBBS in Russia, as universities actively involve students in conferences, research discussions, and real clinical case studies from the early years of training.

Valentina Ilyinichna Larionova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Medical Genetics at the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov and Chairman of the Association of Specialists in Molecular Medicine, Medical and Laboratory Genetics named after E.I. Schwartz (St. Petersburg), presented a report on “Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in Children – Challenges of Our Time.”

Elena Viktorovna Rakitskaya, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Hospital Pediatrics at the Far Eastern State Medical University (Khabarovsk), discussed screening in risk groups, immunotechnology for prevention, and promising treatment directions.

Dmitry Mikhailovich Serkin, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor at Chita State Medical Academy, shared regional experience in the early diagnosis of type 1 diabetes mellitus in children.

Representing the Amur State Medical Academy, Olga Vyacheslavovna Zhuravleva, pediatrician and pediatric endocrinologist, Assistant of the Department of Pediatrics, delivered a report titled “Screening for Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in Children in the Amur Region.”

She noted:

“Screening for autoantibodies to pancreatic B-cells in children at risk of developing type 1 diabetes mellitus was carried out under the program ‘Early Diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus in Children.’ Since October 1, 2024, this program has been implemented by the National Medical Research Center of Endocrinology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation as part of the Federal Project ‘Fighting Diabetes Mellitus.’ A total of 27 families participated in the survey — 11 families where diabetes is observed in one of the parents and 16 families where the disease is diagnosed in one of the children. We worked not only with families from Blagoveshchensk but also covered children from surrounding districts. Samples from 45 children were sent to the National Medical Research Center of Endocrinology. This became possible thanks to coordinated teamwork with the chief freelance endocrinologist of the Amur Region, Utkina N.V., and the staff of the Children’s City Clinical Hospital. The results are reassuring, but much work still lies ahead.”

Another guest at the round table was Tatyana Vladimirovna Grin, a representative of the parent public organization for families of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Participation in such high-level medical discussions and research initiatives demonstrates the strong academic environment offered to students planning Russia MBBS admission 2026, further strengthening Russia’s position as a preferred destination to study MBBS in Russia for Indian and international students.
