Amur State Medical Academy Opens “Medicine During the War” Historical Exhibition
Visitors to the thematic tour of the renovated exhibition space were first-year students of the Amur State Medical Academy. Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy, History of the Fatherland and Foreign Languages of the Amur State Medical Academy Maria Alexandrovna Ivanova told the children about the new exposition and unique exhibits of the exhibition.
"The exhibition is dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War and to a greater extent touches on the history of medicine during the war. The Medical Academy was formed in 1952 and a large number of employees were participants in the war, including the first four rectors. A significant part of the teaching staff was formed from military doctors. The exhibition opens with a set of materials dedicated to the teacher, founder of the Department of Microbiology Alexander Andreevich Goremykin. He is a native of the Amur Region, graduated from the Tomsk Medical Institute, managed to defend his Ph.D. thesis before the war. Then he went to the front and became the head of the evacuation hospital. The exposition presents certificates for the medals awarded to Alexander Andreevich, his personal notes, lecture notes for students, photos from the family archive," said Maria Alexandrovna.
At the exhibition, you can see surgical instruments from the war times, sterilizers, glass syringes, and weapon cases of that time. There are also modern exhibits dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, as well as thematic publications and books.
"The exhibition tells about the development of surgical and therapeutic medical service during the war. Thanks to the efforts of doctors, a huge number of losses were avoided. More than 70% of the fighters returned to the ranks, the doctors were able to defeat the incipient epidemics in the shortest possible time. The exhibition presents unique exhibits - original documents, photographs of the Great Patriotic War, as well as artifacts from the battlefields," added Maria Alexandrovna Ivanova.
You can visit the exposition, located on the second floor of the theoretical building, until the end of May.
