Amur Medical Academy Plans Major Student Research Reform
Meeting of students of the SSS Activists of the Amur State Medical Academy with the Rector's Advisor for Research and Innovative Development I.A. Andrievskaya
At the Amur State Medical Academy, a meeting was held between students of the SSS Activists and the Rector's Advisor for Research and Innovative Development Irina Andrievskaya. The meeting was attended by 1-5 year students of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pediatrics.
The main topic is the restructuring of the existing system of student science in the Amur State Medical Academy. The shortcomings of the existing model of SSS work and the need to ensure full-fledged research activities in the Academy are emphasized.
The following issues were discussed:
- improving communication between students and supervisors;
- increasing the ways of entry into the scientific activities of students of the Amur State Medical Academy;
- the transition from the formal to the real work of the departmental Council of People's Commissars;
- development of interdisciplinary interaction between departments, practical research work of students;
- building a trajectory for the development of research skills of a student from 1 to 6 years.
The need to combine in modern medicine the knowledge of not only fundamental and clinical medical disciplines, but also knowledge of physics, mathematics, and engineering is noted. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of students' knowledge in the field of statistical data processing and the principles of evidence-based medicine. The question of the possibility of students to conduct research at clinical bases was raised.
What is planned:
- To create a center for the collective use of equipment on the basis of the Central Research Laboratory of the Amur State Medical Academy;
- To develop youth laboratories, a network of departmental scientific circles, joint fundamental and clinical laboratories for students;
- To introduce step-by-step training of students from the 1st to the 6th year - teaching students:
- work on scientific equipment;
- Use of statistical methods and research methodology in general;
- writing abstracts and articles at the level of RSCI, VAK;
- public speaking skills;
- independent research work by the 3rd year.

The importance of students' publication in the Amur Medical Journal was emphasized. Among the advantages of the publication were:
- general increase in the student's publication activity;
- additional points for admission to residency;
- Formation of a scientific portfolio.
The Rodionov Scholarship is allocated as a scholarship that is important for assessing the quality of a student's scientific work at the course level.
Students' work in research laboratories is an important part of the development of students' research competencies, as it allows:
- Officially work in scientific departments;
- acquire research skills;
- Participate in publications and grants.
Among the benefits for student researchers, the following were mentioned:
- Presidential and government scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students;
- Housing subsidies for young researchers.
The main result of the meeting:
A large-scale reform of the SSA of the Amur State Medical Academy has been announced. The main goal is to create a full-fledged system for training young researchers: from the first year to graduate school, with access to laboratories, supervisors, publications, grants, and financial support. Students were urged to actively participate in the formation of the new system and offer their own ideas.
