Infectious Challenge Olympiad Tests Future Doctors
The Department of Infectious Diseases of the Amur State Medical Academy held the fifth anniversary Olympiad "Infectious Challenge". This event was a vivid example of how knowledge of infectious diseases can be combined with excitement and creativity.
The participants of the Olympiad were 5th year students with a high level of academic performance in the relevant discipline, including active members of the student scientific society "Dogma of the Infectologist", and taking part in conferences of the Amur State Medical Academy. After the teams were formed, the students chose the thematic names: "Yersinia ratis", "Epidemiological threshold exceeded" and "Klebsibella".
The Olympiad began with a blitz survey for captains, which set a high pace for the entire event. The main rounds of the quiz included tasks on the most relevant and complex topics of infectology, presented in non-standard and diverse formats. Students showed erudition, analytical thinking and the ability to work in a team, which emphasized the professional training of future doctors. This time, the expert jury included the chief physician of the Blagoveshchensk City Polyclinic No1, Honored Doctor of the Amur Region Natalia Sapko and the assistant of the department, epidemiologist of the Amur Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital Tatyana Sukhina.
Natalia Sapko paid special attention to the tasks on laboratory diagnostics, tropical diseases, work in the foci of infections, stressing that such tasks are as close as possible to real practice.
The winner of the Olympiad was the team "Klebsibella" consisting of: Stepan Bobryshev (501 gr.), Anna Budanova (502 gr.), Snezhana Semenova (505 gr.), Elizaveta Zakharchenko (509 gr.), Klara Ulzutueva (510 gr.), Natalia Salomatova (515 gr.), team captain - Andrey Kotenkov (515 gr.). All of them received a well-deserved "excellent" mark automatically at the upcoming exam and memorable prizes with the symbols of the department. The morale of the participants was supported by the mascot of the academy - a hare, which, together with the jury, presented awards in special categories: "Infection Safety", "Laboratory Expert Clinician", "Retired Dr. House", etc.
The organizers of the Olympiad - Associate Professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences Anastasia Zotova and Assistant Tatyana Dolgikh - express their gratitude to the Deputy Dean Alexander Agarkov for their help in providing the site, as well as to students Nikita Kondrashin (517 grams) and Yana Pazdnikova (509 grams) for their assistance in holding the event.
