Conference on clinical observations from the practice of residents in the specialty of endocrinology
The Department of Faculty and Outpatient Therapy held an annual conference on clinical observations from the practice of residents in the specialty "Endocrinology" under the guidance of Professor of the Department Svetlana Naryshkina and Associate Professor of the Department Olga Tanchenko. In her welcoming speech, Svetlana Naryshkina emphasized the diagnostic complexity of modern endocrinology, where the most interesting clinical cases are born at the intersection of neurosurgery and internal diseases.
Residents of the first year of study Solomina K.S. and Askhatkhuzina V.E. presented to the audience a rare clinical case "Acquired panhypopituitarism". The speakers analyzed in detail the etiology, difficulties of early diagnosis and modern regimens of replacement therapy in patients with total loss of pituitary function.
Resident Shiripova E.A. touched upon an even more complex comorbid pathology, making a presentation on "Diabetes insipidus against the background of Itsenko-Cushing's disease". The audience learned about the paradoxical combination of hypercortisolism and diabetes insipidus, as well as how to correctly interpret the symptoms when one endocrine disease masks the other.
The scientific part of the conference was completed by 5th year students. Krechetova E.Y. and Grechishnikova E.M. made a review report on the topic: "Modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the hypothalamic-pituitary system". Students shared the results of the analysis of clinical guidelines for new methods of visualization and pharmacotherapy of this pathology, and also demonstrated an educational film that describes in detail a high-tech method of treatment using a gamma knife, which allows you to effectively treat brain tumors without incisions.
The reports aroused great interest. The conference participants actively asked questions and had a fruitful conversation. Students noted that thanks to the analysis of real clinical cases, they were able to understand the specifics of the work of an endocrinologist much more deeply.
"This is not only "diabetes mellitus and thyroid problems, as many people think. These are neuroendocrinology, complex syndromes and clinical thinking testing. Today, for the first time, we thought about entering residency in this field," 5th year students shared their impressions.
At the end of the conference, Svetlana Naryshkina and Olga Tanchenko explained the nuances of managing patients with the discussed interesting endocrine pathologies, the degree of their mutual aggravation in the addition of neuroendocrine pathology. The conference was an excellent help for residents and students of the 5th and 6th courses studying clinical disciplines.
