Amur State Medical Academy Conducts Measure Your Blood Pressure Campaign on World Hypertension Day

May 17, 2026

May 17 is the World Day Against Arterial Hypertension. By this date, third- and sixth-year students of the Amur State Medical Academy, together with teachers of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases, provided an opportunity for residents and guests of Blagoveshchensk to measure their blood pressure in one of the largest shopping and entertainment centers in the city.

"35-45 percent of the world's population suffer from arterial hypertension. This is the most common cardiovascular disease. And it is a risk factor for the development of myocardial infarction, cerebral stroke, heart failure, chronic kidney disease. The Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases has been holding the "Measure Your Blood Pressure" campaign since 2015. The purpose of the action is to raise awareness of the population about the presence of arterial hypertension, about the risk factors of the disease, possible complications," said the head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases, Professor Iraida Georgievna Menshikova.

For students, such an action is an excellent practice in working with patients.

"I believe that this is really very important, because many people with arterial hypertension can live and not even know about it. If a person feels good with high blood pressure, this does not mean that the body will feel good from it, because the blood vessels are still strained, pathological processes will develop. During the campaign, we not only measure blood pressure, but also give recommendations, educate the population," said Denis Ryabov, a third-year student.

The action received a regional format, because the shopping center, located in the city center, is often visited on weekends not only by Blagoveshchensk residents.

— A very useful promotion! The pressure was measured, everything was explained. Students are future doctors, very cultured, polite, attentive. It's nice to realize that soon such professionals will work in clinics and hospitals in the region," Tatyana Nikolaevna Plotnikova, who came to the regional capital from the village of Urusha, shared her impressions.

In total, during the action, students of the Amur State Medical Academy examined about 150 Amur residents
