Amur Medical Academy Joins Cholera Response Drill

May 26, 2026

In the context of the continuing risks of importing epidemiologically significant and quarantine infections into the Amur Region, interdepartmental training exercises were held on May 25. The Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology and Dermatovenereology of the Amur State Medical Academy traditionally takes an active part in such exercises. This year, students and residents were involved not only as contact persons, but for the first time, the main role of a "cholera patient" was entrusted to a fifth-year student of the Faculty of Medicine of the Amur State Medical Academy.

The academy team was divided into two groups. The first, under the leadership of Associate Professor of the Department Anastasia Zotova, left the passenger port of AmurAsso for the Kani-Kurgan checkpoint, where, according to legend, a conditional patient was identified.

"The participation of students in this kind of large-scale events allows us to once again increase not only professional competencies, but also increase caution regarding the import of quarantine infections, which is relevant at the moment of international tourism activity," said Anastasia Zotova.

The second group, which included assistants Tatyana Sukhina, Tatyana Dolgikh and students of the academy, joined the deployment of a cholera hospital on the basis of the Amur Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital.

"For residents, this is a unique opportunity to translate the theoretical knowledge of epidemiology into practical work," said Tatyana Dolgikh.

The purpose of such trainings is to work out the actions and interdepartmental interaction of medical organizations, Rospotrebnadzor, other interested services and departments during primary anti-epidemic measures in the event of the detection of a conditional patient with cholera.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Amur Region, the Office of Rospotrebnadzor, the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Amur Region, the Khabarovsk Anti-Plague Station, the administration of Blagoveshchensk, the Blagoveshchensk Ambulance Station, the Amur Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, state regulatory authorities in the Kani-Kurgan APP, AmurAsso Passenger Port, and the Amur State Medical Academy of the Ministry of Health of Russia took part in the large-scale exercises. Contact persons are routinely accommodated in an isolation ward located in the Children's City Clinical Hospital.
