Fire department museum visit enhances safety training for second-year students at Amur State Medical Academy

Fire Department Museum Visit Enhances Safety Training

June 15, 2026

As part of the course "Life Safety" (BZD), teachers of the Department of Traumatology with a course in disaster medicine and Maxim Anatolyevich Shiyanov, director of the museum, organized field classes for second-year students, combining a visit to the Fire Department Museum on the basis of the Center for Fire Prevention Propaganda and Public Relations of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Amur Region and the operating fire and rescue unit. The event was not just a theoretical lesson, but a visual demonstration of how knowledge is applied in practice to save lives.

The program of the day began with an immersion in history. In the halls of the museum, students were able to trace the evolution of the fire service from its inception to the present day. Of particular interest were the fire helmets of the last 120 years, most of which could be tried on.

The practical part of the excursion in the form of a lesson took place in the garage of the fire department. Here the theory took real shape. The students were shown modern equipment and combat clothing of a firefighter, told about the purpose of each element - from a helmet to a breathing apparatus. The children were able to see and sit inside powerful fire trucks equipped with tank trucks and ladders. The instructor spoke in detail about the tactics of extinguishing fires and the rules for evacuating people.

"Such trips are the most important part of the educational process. They allow students not only to consolidate the knowledge gained at the lectures, but also to form a culture of safe behavior, as well as to take a fresh look at the profession of a rescuer, to realize the degree of risk and the importance of their work. The tour clearly showed that safety is the result of not only knowledge, but also the highest professionalism, courage and willingness to help," said Victoria Viktorovna Zaritskaya, associate professor of the Department of Traumatology with a course in disaster medicine.
